Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus
If you received spam that claimed to be from Linkcheck then our sincere condolences but it did NOT originate with us. Our domain is being forged by spammers.
We have analysed some of the spam bounces that we get from spam that was refused delivery. We get about 1500 to 2000 of these bounced spams each and every day. We discovered that most of the spam being sent out through our forged domain is sent through virus infected computers belonging to ordinary people and businesses. The spammer looks for machines infected with certain types of virus (actually called trojans) and uses them to send spam - a) it's cheaper than using paid-for bulk mail services; b) the bulk mail services are becoming rarer as pressure builds against them; c) they can't be traced, at least not without a great deal of difficulty.
Please do not help these spammers. Ensure that your anti-virus software is up to date and that you are running a good firewall. If you don't know about firewalls then use Google to search for information on them. ALL computers need a firewall if they are connected to the internet in any way. ALL computers need up to date anti-virus software - and up-to-date means the very latest copy of the signature files as well as the software, probably only a couple of days old at most.
